TO protect farmers and stabilize the market, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. signed the resolution extending the rice importation ban until December 31, 2025.
According to Executive Order No. 102, the import ban for both regular and well-milled rice will remain in effect until the end of the year. However, the ban does not cover the importation of specialty rice varieties that are not locally produced by Filipino farmers.
The EO also said that the import ban may be extended or shortened upon the recommendation of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Which is why these government agencies were tasked to evaluate the effects of the suspension of importation to both rice supply and prices in the country, within 30 days of the implementation of the EO.
Initially, the import ban was ordered by the president in August and was supposed to be lifted by October 30.
