Revilla jailed after surrender over Bulacan case

FORMER senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. was brought Tuesday to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory in Barangay Payatas following his court processing.

Revilla arrived at the facility shortly after completing procedures before the Sandiganbayan.

He surrendered to authorities Monday night after the Sandiganbayan Third Division issued an arrest warrant against him and six others over alleged anomalies in an infrastructure project in Pandi, Bulacan.

“This is saddening. It’s like there’s no due process. But still, I will face this without fear. And I know God won’t abandon me. Because I did nothing wrong. I only ask for your prayers and give my family strength,” Revilla said in Filipino in a video posted on his Facebook page.

Revilla previously faced plunder charges in 2013 for allegedly channeling P224 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) to fake non-government organizations linked to Janet Napoles.

In a 2018 ruling, the Sandiganbayan convicted Napoles and Revilla’s former aide Richard Cambe of plunder for facilitating the transfer of PDAF funds to Napoles-owned NGOs.

Revilla, however, was acquitted in the case after the court cited a “glaring absence of evidence” that he personally benefited from the scheme.
