One RFID explained: requirements and step-by-step registration process

SO, you’ve decided to combine your AutoSweep and EasyTrip RFIDs. But you are unsure how to do just that. Don’t worry, this article will cover everything you need to do and bring to avail the One RFID program of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) in partnership with the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and RFID service providers.

The first thing you need to do is decide which RFID you want to keep using. Prior to One RFID, AutoSweep operated by SMC Tollways caters to Skyway, SLEX, STAR Toll, TPLEX, NAIAx, and MCX; meanwhile, Easytrip under MPTC Tollways services NLEX, NLEX Connector, SCTEX, CALAX, CAVITEX, and C5 Southlink.

Should you prefer Easytrip, check your card first, is it the new white and orange version, or is it the old blue one? If it is still the blue card, the next step is to go to an Easytrip service center and have them replace your RFID sticker and card. Only with the new Easytrip card and RFID can you enroll in the One RFID.

For both Easytrip and Autosweep, you need to bring your driver’s license, together with the OR/CR of your vehicle. Do note that the OR/CR must be named after the person applying for the One RFID. If not, they must present a deed of sale from the person whose name is registered in the OR/CR

If all of these requirements are brought to the RFID service center, it will take about 10 minutes for the staff to process your request. They will keep the card of the unselected RFID.

They will also remove the RFID sticker on your vehicle. But if your RFID sticker is underneath your windshield tint, the staff will suggest (at least in my personal experience) that you scratch the circular chip on the unselected RFID sticker to avoid machine “confusion” during scanning. Although in my case, I did not scratch the chip and have not (yet) experienced any problems.

While the remaining load of your other RFID will be transferred to your preferred service provider, it may take up to three working days before it gets credited in your account. In my experience, it took only a few hours.

Don’t panic, though, if you pass through a toll gate operated by the unselected service provider, just inform the teller that you just got your RFIDs unified and they will manually input the transaction.

Enrollment to One RFID is free of charge and completely optional.

And now, you are good to go! Just remember that currently, One RFID is only applicable for Luzon tollways and individual accounts. DOTr said that they are looking to extend it to group or corporate accounts by early this year.
