NBI says Sarah Discaya free without arrest warrant

CONTRACTOR Sarah Discaya is not legally detained and may leave the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) premises as no arrest warrant has been issued against her, Acting Director Angelito “Lito” Magno said Monday.

“Of course, since wala pang warrant of arrest, we cannot legally hold her,” Magno said in an ambush interview, confirming that Discaya is staying at the NBI voluntarily.

Discaya surrendered last week following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s statement that a warrant was expected over alleged anomalies in flood control projects. Her legal team described the move as “strategic” and not an admission of guilt.

Magno said the NBI stands ready to act once a warrant is issued. “If ever it will come out, we will serve the warrant. It will be booked, fingerprinted, photographed, and then we will return the warrant,” he said.

Discaya and nine others face charges of malversation and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act over a P96.5-million ghost flood control project in Davao Occidental.
