E-TRICYCLES are banned from traversing all major highways in Metro Manila starting today, January 2, 2026.
According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO), e-trikes are specifically prohibited along EDSA, C5, Roxas Boulevard, and Quirino Avenue to Magallanes – South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lakanilao said that this move was to ensure everyone’s safety, as the major thoroughfares in Metro Manila were not designed for e-trikes.
The LTO chief is also asking the public’s understanding regarding the ban. He said that in the coming days, they will be coordinating with local government units and other sectors to create proper and safer routes for e–trike users.
Enforcers from LTO will be deployed along the aforementioned Metro Manila major roads to inform e-trike users about the new directive and ensure proper implementation.
Violators will be penalized with fine and possibility of e-trike impoundment, under the Republic Act No. 4136 or Land Transportation and Traffic Code and Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01.
