THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing on upgrading the voter registration system in preparation for the 2028 elections.
In a televised press briefing held on Friday, Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said that they are looking into using facial recognition, iris scanning, and additional fingerprinting to clean out the voters’ list and eliminate flying voters.
Currently, the poll body’s technology only allows four fingerprint enrollment and Comelec is planning on expanding that to 10.
“This is so that we can better clean up our voters list, and so we do not give room to those who are looking to become flying voters,” Laudiangco said.
“You will not succeed since the Comelec’s list is organized,” he added.
Besides improving the voter registration system, the Comelec will also start other election preparations next year.
Laudiangco said that they plan on holding a vendor’s fair where technology providers from within and outside the country are allowed to showcase their products that the Comelec can use for the next elections.
The spokesperson said that their early planning and preparation will ensure a clean election in 2028.
“We will make sure that the list we will release come 2028 is accurate, clean and pictures of every voter are attached so there will be no room for the cheaters and impostors come election time,” Laudiangco said.
