Vince Dizon to testify against Zaldy Co

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said Monday he will testify in the trial of former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co, which begins on January 20 at the Sandiganbayan.

“On January 20, ako’y magtetestigo sa Sandiganbayan sa trial ni former Congressman Zaldy Co. We will give you updates doon sa aking sworn testimony sa kasong ‘yan,” Dizon said.

He added that, as complainant in multiple cases, he expects to testify in several more proceedings in the coming weeks.

Arrest warrants have been issued against Co, DPWH officials, and directors of Sunwest Corp. over alleged anomalies in flood control programs. The Ombudsman filed corruption and malversation charges related to a supposed P289 million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro last November.

Co has denied the allegations. Last December, the Sandiganbayan declared him a “fugitive from justice” and ordered the cancellation of his Philippine passport. The NBI requested Interpol to issue a red notice against him—a global alert asking law enforcement to locate and provisionally arrest a wanted person pending extradition.

Last week, the NBI filed a new plunder complaint against Co with the DOJ. The department has begun its preliminary investigation, DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said.
