THE vicinity of Mayon Volcano in Albay will remain a no fly zone until Saturday, January 3, 2026, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

This is as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) placed the volcano under Alert Level 2 on Thursday.

“The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has extended a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) B6570/25 covering flights near Mayon Volcano, with vertical limits from the surface up to 11,000 feet,” the CAAP’s latest advisory read.

The NOTAM was in effect since 8:55AM of January 2 until 8:55AM of January 3.

Earlier in December 2025, CAAP has banned flights near Mayon because of its continuous volcanic activity.

Meanwhile, according to Phivolcs, through the Mayon Volcano Network, they have been monitoring the increasing “rockfall shed by the summit lava dome.” They recorded a total of 599 rockfall events since November, with the highest incidence listed on December 31 with 47 rockfall events.

Also in Phivolcs’ monitoring, they observed “long-term ground deformation,” indicating that the slopes of Mayon Volcano has been swelling since June 2024.

“Persistent and increasing rockfall, coupled with long- to short-term swelling of the edifice, may indicate increased chances of an eruption occurring at the summit of Mayon, generating life-threatening volcanic hazards that may impact surrounding communities,” Phivolcs said in its advisory.
