A 12-year old boy died in Tondo, Manila after a firecracker exploded on Sunday, December 28.
His friend, another 12-year old boy, is currently confined and undergoing medical treatment at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
According to the report of the Manila Police District, the boys were walking when they noticed firecrackers strewn along the stretch of Lorenzo Street in Tondo.
The first victim picked up an unidentified firecracker, while the other took a piccolo and immediately attempted to light it. However, both firecrackers ignited and simultaneously exploded.
The blast was so big that it caused severe injuries, even dismemberment to the first boy, resulting in his instantaneous death.
The second victim, meanwhile, was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Authorities say that investigation is still ongoing regarding the incident.
