FOR many Filipinos, Christmas remains a beacon of hope, joy, and gratitude, even after a year of challenges.
A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey released Wednesday found that 68% of adult Filipinos expect a happy Christmas this year, slightly higher than 65% in 2024, though still below the 73% recorded in 2023 and 2022.
Hope seems strongest in Mindanao, where 76% of adults anticipate a joyful holiday, followed by 73% in the Visayas, and 64% each in Balance Luzon and Metro Manila. Yet, 7% expect a sad Christmas, and 25% remain unsure, reminding us that not everyone experiences the season the same way.
Beyond expectations of celebration, the survey captured what Filipinos hold dear.
Nearly half (45%) said they are most thankful for good health, while 29% cited family, and 28% expressed gratitude simply for being alive. These answers reflect a quiet resilience and the deep appreciation many feel for life’s simplest blessings,a reminder that gratitude often outweighs gifts.
The survey covered 1,200 adults nationwide through face-to-face interviews from November 24 to 30. Respondents included 13% from Metro Manila, 45% from Balance Luzon, 19% from the Visayas, and 23% from Mindanao, with ages ranging from 18 to 55 and above. The sampling error is ±3% nationally and ±6% for each region.
As Filipinos prepare to celebrate, the survey offers more than numbers, it shows a nation cherishing health, family, and life itself. In a world that can feel uncertain, these small, heartfelt joys are what make Christmas truly meaningful.
