PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. declared a State of National Calamity following the massive destruction brought about by Typhoon Tino.

The declaration, as recommended by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) was made to hasten the delivery of aid, support, and services to Filipinos affected by the typhoon.

It also aims to prepare the communities foreseen to be affected by Tropical Storm Fung-Wong that is still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but is expected to enter the country as a typhoon to be called Uwan.

Under the declaration of State of National Calamity, emergency funds will be accessed by affected communities, as the government continues the rescue and relief efforts in the regions of Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, MIMAROPA, even Negros Island. It will also speed up the rescue, recovery, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

“That gives us quicker access to some of the emergency funds. Secondly, mapapabilis ang ating procurement so that we don’t have to go to the usual bureaucratic procedures and we can immediately provide assistance to the victims,” President Marcos said at the situational briefing on November 6 in Camp Aguinaldo.
